PRESS RELEASE

IAM President Greets Schiller Conference

July 5, 2011 (EIRNS)—Tom Buffenbarger, the International president of the IAM, sent the following message of greeting to the Schiller Institute conference. It was read to the audience at the outset of the conference keynote, during the opening panel on Glass-Steagall today. We quote in full:

"On behalf of the 730,000 members of the International Association of Machinists & Aerospace Workers [IAM], I am proud to extend our warmest greetings and best wishes for a successful Schiller Institute's 2011 International Conference. The IAM commends the work of the Institute as the global economy continues to struggle through these unprecedented times. The search for global and national economic stability requires new thinking, new ideas and at the same time, a deep historical appreciation for those fiscal policies that promoted and assured prudent fiscal management.

"In the United States of America, the IAM is proud to be in the forefront of progressive organizations in seeking the reinstatement of Glass-Steagall legislation that will serve as a pillar of re-regulating lawless financial institutions and reordering national priorities toward supporting revitalization of national infrastructure and quality job creation.

"The IAM recognizes the value of dignified and respectable work as fundamental to human and social progress. History has repeatedly demonstrated that when capital is properly placed subservient to ideas and work, great things benefitting all nations result.

"Good luck with your proceedings over the next few days and I thank all of you attending for your dedication to the proposition that action does speak louder than words."
