PRESS RELEASE

Rand Paul Announces S.1471 to Declassify 28 Pages at Packed Capitol Press Conference; Media Explodes

June 2, 2015 (EIRNS)—At a press conference at the Capitol Visitors Center this morning, Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.), flanked by former Sen. Bob Graham (D-Fla.), Reps. Walter Jones (R-N.C.), Stephen Lynch (D-Mass.), Thomas Massie (R-Ky.), and representatives of the 9/11 families, announced that he had introduced S.1471, a bill to declassify the 28 pages from the original Joint Congressional Inquiry into 9/11. The Senate bill is co-sponsored by Sen. Ron Wyden (D-Ore.) and Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand (D-N.Y.). H.Res.14, a House bill introduced in January by Jones, Lynch, and Massie, called for the release of the 28 pages.

The press conference was attended by almost all of the major media, and was broadcast live exclusively over LPAC-TV. Within hours of the event, there was prolific media coverage, giving extensive and generally accurate coverage to the powerful presentations on the urgent need to declassify.

All of the speakers—the Senators, Congressmen, and family representatives—singled out Saudi Arabia as the well-spring of the 9/11 attacks and subsequent jihadist terrorism. They all demanded that President Obama fulfill his promise, made on at least two occasions to the 9/11 families, that he would make the full 28 pages public.

Sen. Paul announced, in his opening remarks, that he also intends to introduce the bill as an amendment to the NDAA (National Defense Authorization Act), which is due to come up for a vote in the Senate very soon.

The press conference was dramatic. All of the speakers descended together down a spiral staircase in the Capitol Visitors Center to enter the press conference room. The hallway was full of media and supporters. The room where the press conference took place was overflowing with journalists, cameras, and activists. Three Russian media, one Iranian media outlet, and all of the major US television news networks had cameras, taking up the entire back wall of the room. Interviews with the Senators, Congressmen, and family members spilled over into the hallway for an hour after the press conference concluded.

The LaRouche PAC website will post both the full video and the transcript of the historic event.

President Obama is feeling the heat to release the 28 pages, as never before.
