LaRouche: Urgent To Build the Kra Canal Now!

Sept. 16, 2015 (EIRNS)—Lyndon LaRouche today responded to reports on major efforts by Russia, South Korea, and China to establish a North Asia Development Bank to promote infrastructure development in the are subsuming the Koreas, Russia, China, and Japan, by calling for the immediate revival of the Kra Canal. The Kra Canal, passing through the Ithmus of Kra in Thailand, would create vital new sea routes for trade from Asia into the Indian Ocean, through the New Suez Canal, into the Mediterranean.

The Kra Canal project has been on the table since the 1980s, but has been blocked by British geopolitical destabilizations and other related operations. “The time is now,” Lyndon LaRouche declared today,

“to move ahead rapidly with the building of the Kra Canal. The fact that Egypt has completed the New Suez Canal, greatly expanding shipping into the Mediterranean Sea and beyond, means that we can revolutionize the physical economy of all of Eurasia by building the Kra Canal now.”

LaRouche elaborated that

“with the completion of the Kra Canal, on top of the Suez Canal expansion, there will no longer be a separation between the Atlantic and Pacific economies. China and India will greatly benefit from these two canal projects, along with the smaller nations along the Southeast Asian rim. This must be pushed hard! This will end the British geopolitical games in the Eurasian region. It will change the economic character of the entire world. Australia,”

LaRouche noted,

“will be hard-pressed to stay out of this enterprise, and Australian participation will further erode the British maritime choke-point games that have stymied the true prospects for economic integration and vast increases in trade and development.”
