Kerry Positive on U.S. Discussion with Russia About Syria

Oct. 2, 2015 (EIRNS)—Striking a noticeably different tone than the frantically destabilized Obama White House, U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry yesterday commented that Russia and the United States are moving in the direction of having the same targets in Syria. Responding to a journalist’s question regarding Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov’s statement that "the U.S. and Russia have the same targets—ISIS and al-Qaida—in Syria," Kerry responded:

"Well, in concept, but we are not yet where we need to be to guarantee the safety and security and division of responsibility. And that is a discussion that is taking place today, and it will take place even more so over the course of the next few days, depending on the outcome today. But were working at that even now."

Earlier on Oct. 1, U.S. Defense Department officials held a one-hour videoconference discussion with their Russian counterparts on "deconfliction," with few details reported to the press.
