Leading Republican Pushes Hard for Glass-Steagall
Aug. 25, 2016 (EIRNS)—Ironically, the strongest push for reinstating Glass-Steagall from within the major political parties recently has come from former Reagan Director of the Office of Management and Budget David Stockman, a staunch Republican. Stockman, who is writing a book on the Trump campaign, has renewed his demand for a “super Glass-Steagall” as the means for counterattacking the “banksters” and putting the U.S. economy back on track. Whether Stockman has broad backing from within the banking and Republican community is not known, but it is a sign to be welcomed, and underscores the fact that, with the political will, Glass-Steagall could be brought to the floor of Congress and passed this fall, thus upending the entire thus-far worse-than-dismal Presidential campaign.
