Secretary of State Pompeo To Visit North Korea Next Week

June 28, 2018 (EIRNS)—The Financial Times of London reported that U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo will be visiting North Korea next week to discuss North Korea’s denuclearization plan and related matters. The FT pointed to statements by U.S. officials who said Pompeo cancelled a meeting with Indian Foreign Minister Swaraj Sushma in Washington on July 6 in order to fly to Pyongyang.

On June 27, Pompeo told a Senate Appropriations subcommittee hearing on funding for the State Department that he was confident that North Korea understood the scope of the U.S. desire for complete denuclearization as the two countries negotiate after the summit. “We’ve been pretty unambiguous in our conversations about what we mean when we say complete denuclearization,” Pompeo said.
