Trump Demands New York Times Reveal Sources for Story on Cyber Attacks on Russia’s Power Grid

June 18, 2019 (EIRNS)—President Donald Trump issued another blast at the New York Times last night, for its June 15 story on U.S. cyber warfare against Russia’s electricity grid.

“The story in the @nytimes about the U.S. escalating attacks on Russia’s power grid is Fake News, and the Failing New York Times knows it. They should immediately release their sources which, if they exist at all, which I doubt, are phony. Times must be held fully accountable!”

he tweeted.

During the Helsinki summit last year between Russian President Vladimir Putin and U.S. President Donald Trump, Putin expressed interest in cyber security cooperation with the U.S. “We favor the continued cooperation in counter-terrorism and maintaining cyber security,” he said. He also rejected the accusations against Russia for allegedly interfering in U.S. elections, and suggested cooperation, in that context, on cybersecurity.

“Once again, President Trump mentioned the issue of the so-called interference of Russia with the American elections, and I had to reiterate things I said several times, including during our personal contacts, that the Russian state has never interfered and is not going to interfere into internal American affairs, including the election process,”

he said. “Any specific material, if such things arise, we are ready to analyze together. For instance, we can analyze them through the joint working group on cyber-security, the establishment of which we discussed during our previous contacts.”
