Pompeo Rips Chinese Communist Party Alleged Coronavirus Cover-Up, Hits WHO So-Called ‘Failure’

April 22, 2020 (EIRNS)—U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, at a State Department briefing this morning, ripped into the Chinese Communist Party and World Health Organization for alleged cover-up and going slow on the novel coronavirus outbreak, and he said that data supplied later was inaccurate. “We strongly believe that the Chinese Communist Party did not report the outbreak of the new coronavirus in a timely fashion to the World Health Organization...” he said.

“Even after notifying the WHO of the outbreak in the city of Wuhan in December, the ruling Communist Party didn’t share all of the information that it had and instead covered up how dangerous the disease was. It didn’t report sustained human-to-human transmission for a month until it [the disease] was in every province inside of China.”

Expanding on his diatribe, Pompeo referred to the fact that today, April 22, is Earth Day, to hold forth against China for having allowed wet markets of wild game, which is likely how the virus was transmitted from what could be its repository. On the origin of the virus, Pompeo said that China destroyed samples of the virus to suit its narrative. He said, “The CCP still has not shared the virus sample from inside of China with the outside world, making it impossible to track the disease’s evolution.”

On the World Health Organization, Pompeo claimed its regulatory function failed.
