Trump’s New Summit Idea Doubted, No Official Reactions Yet

June 1, 2020 (EIRNS)—Neither TASS, Sputnik, nor RT reveal any Russian official reactions to President Donald Trump’s proposal Saturday evening, May 30, for an expanded “G7” summit in September. Associated with Trump’s proposal to invite Russia, South Korea, India, and Australia to the G7, was a statement by a White House spokesperson who implied that an absent China would be the subject of the summit. The Russian newspaper Kommersant ran an opinion piece which said that Putin is not likely to agree to come if the expanded summit attempts to isolate China.

Later today, TASS reported Presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov saying that President Vladimir Putin is “open to dialogue on all subjects,” but that Russia needs to see more details before responding to the U.S. proposal and to understand whether it is official.

There have been no responses from European heads of state or government as yet.
