Russian Foreign Ministry Says Putin Will Not Attend a Proposed G7-Plus in Washington without China

June 3, 2020 (EIRNS)—In response to a question on the proposed G7-Plus meeting proposed by this year’s G7 chair President Donald Trump, Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said that “without China’s participation, I am afraid that we cannot implement major measures of global significance.” In response to a question yesterday from Rossiya Segodnya, Zakharova reiterated that Russia’s position that “within the framework of a ‘club’ composed solely of Western countries, it cannot solve world political and economic problems.” She said that “expanding that to other countries was a move in the right direction, it still didn’t guarantee full representation.”

She continued: “The G20 would be an appropriate format. The organization includes member countries of the Group of Seven and the BRICS, and covers the major centers of economic growth and political influence in the world as a whole.”
