Navarro Asserts, China ‘Trade Deal Is Over’—but Trump Counters, ‘China Trade Deal Is Fully Intact’

June 23, 2020 (EIRNS)—Peter Navarro, Trade and Manufacturing Adviser to the President, was tap-dancing the two-step today, after he had said last night on Fox TV, that the China “trade deal is over,” and President Donald Trump tweeted late last night, “The China Trade Deal is fully intact. Hopefully they will continue to live up to the terms of the agreement.” Faced with Trump’s clear rebuttal, Navarro said today that he was taken out of context. However, taken in context, his words and meaning were very clear.

In back and forth with Fox host Martha MacCallum, Navarro went on, after saying that the China “trade deal is over,” to say that Chinese diplomats came to the U.S. and signed the trade deal on Jan. 15, after they knew for fully two months that they had spread the novel coronavirus. He and MacCallum voiced the expression, “China lies, and an American dies.” They also raised as a supposed historical parallel that in December 1941 Japanese diplomats were at the White House just before the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor. Navarro at this point, interjected with great fervor, “My guy is Winston Churchill right now!”
