Biden Corrects Democrats Who Hoped To Pass on the Green New Deal: It’s Mandatory

July 15, 2020 (EIRNS)—Joe Biden revealed his plan to bring back the U.S. economy, and it is the Sanders-AOC Green New Deal. He’s going to enact $2 trillion in new taxes to buy hot-shot insulation for 2 million homes and 4 million buildings, and put wind turbines and solar panels everywhere, “light rail” and bicycle lanes, electric cars. One could ask why just 2 million homes—there are 145 million households in America. Or why create just 1 million jobs doing this, when there are 30 million Americans on unemployment or applying for it? Joe didn’t say. And he didn’t want to say “carbon tax,” so he didn’t mention how $2 trillion would be raised.

Biden also said he’s going to “rebuild roads and bridges.” Americans in construction or production or engineering, or hoping to be, may be hoping to be able to build new high-speed trains and freight-handling systems, new automated ports, airports, new locks and dams, hurricane walls and sea-gates, maybe even build small nuclear reactors in factories, build rockets and space capsules. Joe didn’t go for any of that.

It’s a real irony that Britain’s Conservative Prime Minister Boris Johnson just announced a “Build, Build, Build like FDR” plan—fast electric railroads, nuclear power plants, new housing—and the Democratic Presidential nominee said, “We’re not going back to those 20th-century technologies”!

He did promise to build 500,000 charging stations for the new electric cars he’s going to tell you that you have to buy, to do away with oil and gasoline by 2035 at the latest. He’s going to “generate clean, American-made [sic] electricity to achieve a carbon pollution-free power sector by 2035.” But with wind and solar power we’re going to have less electric power, not more—unless we completely cover 100,000 square miles with nothing but solar panels and wind turbines and back-up gas-turbine electric plants. So there won’t be enough power for those charging stations, and we’ll use a lot less electricity elsewhere.

And will all that “clean” wind and solar power, etc. cost $2 trillion? Ask Bernie Sanders: This “Biden” plan is the Sanders/AOC Green New Deal, although Joe didn’t want to say that in his July 14 announcement. Bernie named a price tag: $16 trillion.

Meanwhile, China will be adding 8,000 MW of new nuclear power every year; Russia will be building and exporting nuclear reactors to countries in Asia and Africa. Those two countries will be collaborating to break through on fusion power. Joe agrees with Barack Obama who said, “We don’t need any fancy technology like fusion power.”

Then there’s the greatest infrastructure challenge: space travel. NASA is going for President Donald Trump’s target to return to the Moon in 2024 and develop a lunar settlement by 2028. Joe Biden doesn’t care to see Americans on the Moon while he’s President, or to aim to go elsewhere in the Solar System. So Joe would leave space to China and India and Japan and Russia.

So this is what Democrats now must support. It’s not just Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s Crew and the Bernie Bros now. If you’re not for the Green New Deal now, you’re not backing the top of your ticket! No more coal, no more nuclear power, no more oil drilling; don’t think about electrified railroads or new irrigation systems; don’t think about fertilizer if you’re a farmer. Democrats have been had by Michael Bloomberg—the New York-and-London ultra-billionaire Sir Michael Bloomberg. This has been his plan for years, with his partners, those great “Democrats” James Baker III, George Shultz, and top British banker Mark Carney.

President Trump commented: “When I first saw the Green New Deal, I thought it was a joke. I said, ‘This will never go anywhere.’ Now they’re trying to impose it. This will destroy our country and make us noncompetitive with other countries.”
