Sen. Rand Paul Demands Voting Investigation

Jan. 24 , 2021 (EIRNS)—George Stephanopoulos began his interview with Rand Paul with a variation of “when did you stop beating your wife?” The question he posted to the Kentucky Senator “This election was not stolen. Do you accept that fact?” set the tone for the remainder of the antagonistic interview.

Senator Paul referred to the need to continue investigations to learn the extent of voting illegalities, such as changes to election rules made by state executive officials rather than legislators. “If we want greater confidence in our elections—and 75% of Republicans agree with me—we do need to look at election integrity and see if we can restore confidence in the elections.” When Stephanopoulos said that Republicans believe this because they were fed a lie, Paul responded that instead of having a debate, his interviewer was simply calling him a liar. After giving examples of election problems, he said “I plan on spending the next two years going state to state and fixing these problems, and I won’t be cowed by liberals in the media who say, ‘there’s no evidence here, and you’re a liar if you talk about election fraud.’ No, let’s have open debate; this is a free country!”

Paul responded to the final question, “Was the election stolen or not?” by broadening the question: “There was a great deal of evidence of fraud and changing of election laws illegally, and I think a thorough investigation is warranted.”
