Russian General Suggests U.S., U.K. Be Guided by Reason, not Ukraine ‘Mosquito Fleet Admirals’

June 26, 2021 (EIRNS)—Maj. Gen. Igor Konashenkov, spokesman for the Russian Defense Ministry, issued a statement yesterday in the aftermath of the Royal Navy’s HMS Defender’s provocative attempt to violate Russian territorial waters off Cape Fiolent in Crimea on June 23. “We call on the Pentagon and the command of the British naval forces, who send their warships to the Black Sea, not to push their luck pandering to the Ukrainian ‘mosquito fleet admirals’ but to be guided by reason instead,” he said reported TASS. He called out Pentagon spokesman John Kirby for referring to Russian statements about warning shots “disinformation” and stated that he “is fully aware that the Defender destroyer in any part of the Black Sea is a target for the anti-ship systems of the Black Sea Fleet safeguarding Crimea’s security.”

Konashenkov further stressed that the Pentagon fitfully denied the obvious even after the Russian Federation released a video documenting the warning shots being fired and direct testimony of the destroyer’s crew. “The epic fiasco of the provocation of the British destroyer Defender in the Black Sea, which abruptly changed course from Russian territorial waters after warning shots from a patrol ship, will long remain a colorful stain on the reputation of the Royal Navy,” he said.
