Britain’s Chancellor of the Exchequer Sunak Seeks To Pull the Plug on Russia’s Economy

March 13, 2022 (EIRNS)—British Chancellor of the Exchequer Rishi Sunak called on March 13 for more British companies to wind down their existing investments in Russia and said new investments should be halted after President Vladimir Putin’s decision to allegedly invade Ukraine.

Echoing Foreign Secretary Liz Truss, who said that the objective is now to effectively dismantle Russia’s society and economy, Sunak asserted in a video message on Twitter, “While I recognize it may be challenging to wind down existing investments, I believe there is no argument for new investment in the Russian economy.”

He continued, “I am urging asset owners and managers to think very carefully about any investment that would in any sense support Putin and his regime.”

Shell, BP and other instruments of the London financial oligarchy, are already pulling out.

In an effort to cave in the physical economy, Sunak went on, “I want to make it crystal clear that if firms or investors decide that they need to end their financial relationship with Russia, the government fully supports you.”
