Russian Foreign Intelligence Chief: Our Military Operation in Ukraine Is ‘Moment of Truth’ for Russian World

April 8, 2022 (EIRNS)—Sergei Naryshkin, the chief of the SVR, Russia’s foreign intelligence agency, argues in an article posted to the National Defense magazine that Russia’s special operation in Ukraine has become a moment of truth for the Russian world. “Russia’s special military operation was a real moment of truth for the Russian world, which is determined to defend the right to its own identity in the face of aggressive globalism, embodied in U.S. hegemony, NATO’s expansion, the policy of liberal interventionism and LGBT propaganda,” he wrote, reported TASS. “To a no smaller extent the operation turned out to be a point of no return for the collective West, which in its Russophobic frenzy openly defies its own basic principles that took decades and even centuries to shape, such as the inviolability of private property, freedom of speech and free access to information.”

Naryshkin believes that “the fierce resistance unequivocally indicates that something more than the future of the current regime in Kyiv is at stake.”

“In fact, the issue of the day is the architecture of the whole world order. Guessing its shape in the current situation is very hard, but it can be stated with certainty that there will be no return to the past,” he said.

Naryshkin also warned that the U.S. and some European countries may turn into liberal-Nazi dictatorships. “We will see the rise in the West of genuine civic consciousness that’s not directed toward the mythical Russian threat, but toward its own leaders that are forcing ordinary Europeans and Americans to pay for their reckless geopolitical moves and miscalculations from their own pockets,” he said. “Such an awakening can only be welcomed, although it’s possible that it will end not by the coming to power in the U.S. and European states of nationally oriented, sensible and realist politicians, but by the establishment of complete and undisguised liberal-Nazi dictatorships in the Western area.”
