Former Trump Defense Secretary Esper, in Taipei, Blathers That One-China Policy Has ‘Outlived Its Usefulness’

July 19, 2022 (EIRNS)—“It is my personal view that the one-China policy has outlived its usefulness, that it is time to move away from strategic ambiguity,” said Mark Esper in a meeting with Taipei president Tsai Ing-wen in her office today. Esper, who served as Secretary of Defense in the Trump administration, and has been the close pal of maniac Mike Pompeo since West Point days, is on a four-day trip to Taiwan. “Strategic ambiguity” is the policy in which Washington does not explain how it would respond to a mainland military operation to reunify with Taiwan.

Meantime, European Parliament Vice President Nicola Beer proclaimed there is “no room for Chinese aggression in democratic Taiwan,” on her arrival in Taiwan July 19. She is the first European Parliament VP to make an official visit to Taiwan. “We won’t turn a blind eye to China’s threats to Taiwan,” she promised, and threatened: “Europe was late for Hong Kong, we won’t be late for Taiwan.”
