Russian Diplomats Counter ‘Diplomacy’ of Kiev Regime’s Backers

Aug. 13, 2022 (EIRNS)—Russian First Deputy Permanent Representative to the UN Dmitry Polyanskiy (in Russian) observed on Aug. 11 that the Kiev regime’s backers at the UN Security Council did not support Ukraine’s allegations that it is Russia that is bombing the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant; which did not mean, however, that they opposed the regime’s claims.

“Those who watched the meeting we convened on the attacks of the Armed Forces of Ukraine on the ZNPP had the opportunity to see what diplomatic tightrope walking our Western colleagues are ready to resort to in order not to call a spade a spade: Ukraine is recklessly shelling the ZNPP, endangering the security of all of Europe. This cynicism is, of course, astounding....”

he wrote on his Telegram account.

“Let's hope that the past discussion, during which, despite the obsession with accusations against Russia, no one essentially supported the delusional Ukrainian version of events, will keep the Ukrainian leadership from new, reckless provocations and the visit of the head of the IAEA R. Grossi to the Zaporizhzhia NPP will still take place in the very near future, neither the Ukrainians nor the UN Secretariat will interfere with him....”

In Moscow, Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova (in Russian) expressed anger at the behavior of certain powers in the Aug. 11 meeting. “We are outraged by how representatives of Western countries behaved during the meeting, as they, driven by their Russophobic beliefs, immediately began to deny the obvious facts related to the shelling of the ZNPP by Ukraine,” the diplomat said. “There is no and cannot be any justification for the fact that states claiming special responsibility for ensuring international peace and security have not found the strength to clearly and expressly point out to Kiev the inadmissibility of the atrocities it commits and call on it to put an end to nuclear terrorism. It seems that, no matter how far the regime of [Ukrainian President] Vladimir Zelenskyy goes, the West is ready to write off all his sins in advance, even if the people of Europe may end up as victims.”
