Zakharova Hits Christmas Attacks on Ukrainian Orthodox Church

Jan. 8, 2023, 2022 (EIRNS)—TASS reported that on Jan. 7, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova (in Russian) characterized Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s Dec. 28 decree revoking the Ukrainian citizenship of 13 priests of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church (UOC) as “Satanism.” “And this is on Orthodox Christmas! This is pure Satanism,” she wrote on her Telegram channel on Jan. 7, commenting on information on the relevant decree by the Ukrainian leader.

On Jan. 7, Ukraine’s Levy Bereg news outlet (in Ukranian) cited its sources, reporting that Zelenskyy had signed a decree stripping Ukrainian Orthodox 13 priests of their citizenship. This comes on the heels of the Zelenskyy regime kicking parishioners out of their own church on Orthodox Christmas, which is celebrated on Jan. 7.

The Levy Bereg coverage continues: “the list of UOC representatives, whose citizenship was suspended by the decree of the President of Ukraine, includes representatives of the Donetsk, Crimean and Romany dioceses, as well as Odesa and Bukovyna dioceses, Levy Bereg learned about this from its own sources. The publication has at its disposal a complete list of persons entered by presidential decree,” and then lists them.

The agency also writes that they may be deported in the future, but doesn’t say to where.

One wonders, what next? Several top Orthodox clerics are already known to be included in the Myrotvorets assassination list.
