Victoria Nuland Takes Aim at Crimea as ‘Legitimate Target’ of Ukrainian Military

Feb. 22, 2023, 2022 (EIRNS)—“Russia has turned Crimea into a massive military installation,” said U.S. Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs Victoria Nuland. “Those are legitimate targets, Ukraine is hitting them, and we are supporting that,” she continued in her Feb. 16 remarks at the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace, reports Antiwar.com news editor Dave DeCamp on Feb. 20.

Nuland gave her own view of the conditions required to bring an end to the conflict: “No matter what the Ukrainians decide about Crimea in terms of where they choose to fight, etc., Ukraine is not going to be safe unless Crimea is at a minimum—at a minimum—demilitarized.”

The warmonger’s comments come just a day after Secretary of State Blinken acknowledged on Feb. 15 that a Ukrainian attempt at taking Crimea would be crossing a Russian “red line.”

Remember that it was only after Kiev’s Oct. 8, 2022 bombing of the Kerch Bridge connecting Crimea to mainland Russia that Russia began strikes against Ukrainian energy infrastructure.
