Kiev Regime Attempts Drone Strike on Moscow

May 30, 2023, 2022 (EIRNS)—Russian air defense forces countered a drone attack on the Moscow region early today, preventing casualties and all but minor damage.

“The Kiev regime has carried out a terrorist attack in Moscow region this morning. I note, on civilian facilities,” Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu said today during a special teleconference at the Defense Ministry. He said eight drones were involved, three of which were brought down by electronic means, while the rest were shot down by Pantsir S air defense systems. According to Moscow city and regional officials, there were no casualties and only minor damage to a number of residential structures (although TASS reported that the drones had “slammed” into three apartment buildings).

The Kiev regime denied direct involvement in the attacks. “Certainly, we are not directly involved” in those attacks, Mykhailo Podolyak, a top advisor to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, claimed today. Podolyak’s denial nonetheless followed an explicit threat issued yesterday by Kyrylo Budanov, the chief of Ukrainian military intelligence (GUR).

“All those in the Russian Federation who still believe, believe and maybe dream that they can intimidate Ukraine, I want to upset you a little bit—this is not true: Everyone has been and is still at their jobs and continues to do their work. All those who tried to intimidate us, dreaming that it would have some effect, you will regret it very soon,”

Budanov said, following a series of Russian missile and drone strikes on Kiev.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov today acknowledged that it was likely that the drone attack was a response to the Russian strikes on Kiev. “It is clear that what we have seen was the Kiev regime’s reaction to our very effective strike against one of the decision-making centers. The strike took place on Sunday,” May 28, he said. “It is obvious that this attack was launched by the Kiev regime. This must be understood absolutely clearly.”
